The Hypertherm 428895 is the genuine OEM ohmic sensing ring kit for SmartSYNC machine torches on Powermax45 SYNC, Powermax65 SYNC, Powermax85 SYNC and Powermax105 SYNC. Three rings per kit.
The ohmic ring gives the height control an electrical contact with the plate so the torch can find the surface before it pierces. It clips onto the cartridge and the tabs must touch the shoulder of the cartridge to sense correctly, so a ring that is not fully seated is a common and easily missed cause of inconsistent pierce height. The ring is shown on every mechanised cut chart in Hypertherm's SYNC cut charts guide. Rings are consumed by contact and spatter, so they are replaced on condition rather than on a schedule.
