The Hypertherm 220817 is the genuine OEM shield for mechanised cutting up to 85 A on Duramax and Duramax Lock machine torches, used on the Powermax45 XP, Powermax65, Powermax85 and Powermax105.
The shield is the outermost part of the stack. It keeps spatter off the nozzle and directs shield gas around the arc, which is what protects nozzle life and cut edge quality on a cutting table. A worn or spatter-caked shield is one of the first things to check when edge quality drops.
For unshielded mechanised cutting, Hypertherm's alternative is the 220955 deflector. The 105 A mechanised process uses the 220993 shield instead.
